Alright, day two just happened to be my birthday! The big 22. The second anniversary of my 21st birthday. It was spent...driving through effin' Kansas.
Me: "Kansas is boring. There's nothing here."
Dan: "It's awesome! You can see forever!"
Me: "Yeah, my point exactly.. it's flat.. and the same... forever."
Dan: *click click* *click click*
-4 hours later-
Dan: *click click*
Melissa: "What the hell is there to take photos of now?
Dan: "It just goes on forever!!!"
We drove through Kansas and crossed the state border into Colorado. To *all* of our disappointments, you couldn't see any mountains. I've never driven past Kansas myself and I only saw the Rockies once when I was a kid. But, when you're a kid, everything seems huge so I was convinced that these so called "mountains" were actually super tiny. Every hill that was in the distance, one of us would shout: "MOUNTAIN! I SEE IT!" And then, to our dismay, it wasn't. We were 60 miles out of Colorado Springs and was beginning to think these mountains didn't even exist. We drive over another hill... no mountains. As we drove over another hill, still no fucking mountains. Another hill and I said: "Dude, I don't think these mountains even ex--HOLY SHIT MOUNTAINS!!"
I had found them first. Success was mine.
We finally got to John and Ellen's house (which ended up being my cousin, not just a family friend), and their cats were absolutely adorable. We went out to eat at the Bean Bandit, a mexican restaurant. We were supposed to go to a place called El Poblano's Mexican Restaurant and when John found it, he called and said it looked sketchy as it was situated between two tattoo shops in a tiny run down strip mall. Apparently I get restaurant coupons for gas chambers disguised as mexican eateries. Damn you restaurant.com.
I think this day is boring as well. Once again, I have no photos. The next day will be better. There will be mountains and marmots. I promise.
And just incase you don't know the beauty of Kansas, here it is.
